Sotto: noise-cancelling earbuds concept film
A 30-second vertical concept film for fictional earbuds, visualising city noise, active silence and a permitted voice through particles, waveforms and product form.
Self-directed concept by Motionwisp. The brand and product are fictional; this is a craft demonstration, not a client campaign.
The creative brief
Sotto is a self-directed concept film for fictional noise-cancelling earbuds. The brief was to visualise a benefit that normally cannot be seen: the moment an overwhelming sound field becomes quiet, followed by the return of only the sound the listener needs. A dense particle landscape, restrained waveform graphics and a pair of sculpted earbuds create that before-and-after story.
The opening builds pressure with sirens, engines and overlapping voices. Thousands of points form turbulent rings and terrain around a small central control while level-like readouts reinforce the sense of intensity. One tap collapses the field into a near-flat horizon. Music is then allowed back in as a clean waveform, and the earbuds emerge from particles for the product reveal.
The final scene introduces transparency rather than total isolation. A voice says, “Hey! This is our stop,” and a highlighted band passes through the quiet field before the Sotto identity appears. The takeaway for a hardware marketer is that an invisible function can be made legible through state change. Establish the problem with one visual system, transform that same system when the feature activates, then show why the feature matters in an everyday moment. Sotto is portfolio work for an invented brand; its cancellation and transparency behaviour is a creative demonstration, not a specification or performance claim for a real product.
Why the film works this way
Give noise a physical form
The opening particle field turns separate sound sources into unstable rings, peaks and grain. Because the field is visibly crowded before the tap, its disappearance communicates relief without needing a technical explanation of noise cancellation.
Make silence an active state
After the tap, the particles settle into a thin luminous horizon rather than cutting to an empty frame. That residual line preserves continuity and gives the following music waveform a controlled surface from which to grow.
Reveal the product from the effect
The two earbuds coalesce from the same points used to represent sound. Linking the object to the visualised benefit keeps the hardware reveal inside the concept instead of pausing for a conventional isolated pack shot.
End with selective awareness
The friend’s voice and “our stop” line introduce a reason to let sound back through. This shifts the story from absolute silence to control over attention, giving the final “hear only what matters” line a scene that supports it.

Sirens. Engines. Everyone, all at once. Tap once. Hear that? Nothing. Now, let in only what you love. Every detail. Nothing else. And when someone needs you... Hey! This is our stop. Sotto. Hear only what matters.
